Whew! 2018 has finished and personally … I'm not too fussed about new years. I find them reasons for a lot of half hearted promises. Saying that, the beginning of 2019 brought something different to me. A genuine feeling that this year was actually going to be the year. Because of this simple fact. I had a plan. A range of goals and a direction into my new year. Something that was missing in 2018.
2018 was the toughest year yet, we went through significant challenges compared to the previous years which left us broken or ready for more. But, it was full of amazing moments and some of the low ones aided in our development; preparing us for a better self.
It's always easier to learn from someone else's mistakes instead of having to go through it yourself, so pick up form the lessons through 2018;
BEING INACTIVE IN YOUR IDEAS
We all have hidden gems buried deep inside our minds beneath all that dust of procrastination and doubt. If there’s one thing i brought out of 2018 is that regret can turn out to be a bigger emotion that we realise. Days, months, even years can pass by and regret can grow stronger. Act on what you want to do.
HAVING MEANING TO YOUR ACTIONS
We can live life on autopilot and bypass the purpose for the things that we do. Centering our attention unto an action and being in the present is a way to ground us and remain here. If you are going to listen, listen with purpose. Or eat, eat with purpose. You will find paying more attention to this small step with change the way you see things that you do.
KEEPING A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT
With growing responsibility, it can be difficult to maintain every aspect of your life. I found especially when it creped closer to deadlines. Neglecting our environment and health can lead to a downwards spiral in every other part of our lives. It's true we can't control everything but for the things that you can control make sure they are in tip top condition and it will lead you organized to deal with other parts of your life.
YEAR OF ACTION
My theme for this year is action! Active in work ethic, active in health, being an active presence, being creatively active. Yeah… you get the gist!
My uncle once told me something that has stuck on me. There are four types of actions that we take.
Passive
Playing the backseat driver in your life, not really doing much but just enough to keep going in whatever direction the wind will decide to take you.
Active
Deliberately doing something, it's the second best way to look at life, you are doing something with purpose and intention.
Inactive
Not doing anything at all and allowing life to pass you by.
Reactive
We need to learn to be reactive, responding to life as it happens. Reacting like a reflex, automatically taking the actions necessary regardless of the situation. Successful people live this way, taking action becomes second nature and it is something we can practise and master.
Actively and reactively living will get you results to the aspirations you seek. These both mean doing the work necessary. Yet, they are the two which require stepping out of our comfort zone. This way of living is part of my plan for 2019, let it be yours too.
ACTIONS TO TAKE TO ENSURE GROWTH IN THE NEW YEAR
Make a list of 6 things you want to achieve this year (don't be frigid with it, aim high!!)
Think about why you want to achieve these goals, what effect would it have on you and others?
To each goal break it down into the monthly, weekly and daily actions you can take each day to attain the goal at the end of this year.
Actually start it!
This year will only be different if something about you changes for the better. Take onboard an active and reactive mentality and go for it!
This year will we see drastic difference ...
